Many of our customers choose to pass on their gateway fees to their customers and use the payment surcharge setting in Payment Settings. This article will help you understand how the calculations of payments work.
If you are wanting to add a Payment Surcharge then you need to have Site Administrator Access and go to the payment settings of the module you wish to pass on the fees for. This will not apply to customers using the Member Jungle Payment Gateway.
You can also have different settings for membership, events and catalogue if you would like to.
If you navigate to the payments area you will see that it shows the Service Fees for your current package. There are two components of both the service fee and the gateway transaction fee Fixed Component i.e. 69 cents per transaction
Percentage component i.e. 0.7& per transaction.
The Payment Surcharge is the transaction fee charged by your gateway if you are using Stripe you can find your fees here, although they vary per region. Remember there is a typically a Fixed and a Percentage Component i.e. 1.7% and 30cents.
People often get caught out in understanding the calculations as remember the gateway fee is charged on the whole amount processed through the gateway. Therefore you need to take the amount you are passing on, into the equation when working out the fees.
To work out what the total amount paid by the customer you will need to use this formula.
Sub-Total = Purchase Amount + Service Fee
Subtotal + Fixed Component of Gateway Fee
Total = --------------------------------------------- - Subtotal
1 - Percentage Component of the Gateway Fee
We understand that this sounds really confusing so we have built a calculator to make it Easy for you.
